Our Wounded Lady
03:32
|
|||
She was raised on a farm in Arkansas,
a pretender honest
meal to meal, picking cotton.
And I'm not much different,
now wholly indicted.
A wry, kindred liar
A sinner, but trying
to make my amends
to a collective dying
whose blood is the chase
to my unhealthy diet.
Burning both ends,
Spread out too thin.
The power of death's in the dust left behind.
An abandoned diner, a withering garden.
I've never seen life in such graceful denial.
The elegy read was so honestly faithful.
Her daughter in law lives for Vegas,
but cried at the wake
singing "God lives within us".
While you were awake,
I could've come calling
proclaiming a name
so familiar, yet foreign.
But the Greatest one stops,
and with outstretched arm, beckons all:
The Name you forgot,
always hold it close to your heart.

A Women Named Girl
03:18
|
|||
Girl of old.
Father's child.
Dancer's toes
make her fly.
Brother beast,
never shy.
Girl of old.
Run and hide.
Girl of now.
Ample mind.
Yes, you talk
but speak with your eyes.
Always knew
there was a rhythm to our rhyme.
Girl of now.
Destined bride.

Malapropos

She said she hated those people
And if she ever caught me
Playing with those kids again
I’d be sorry
I didn’t understand
She said, “You’re too innocent”
He was just nine years old
I was seven
She called me from the home
She said, “The whore stole my purse”
Her voice was cracking
“They just want my money”
Her voice was always cracking
She whispered “God forgive me”
“Please take me home”
”Never mind I already am”
She died on a Thursday
In her daughters arms
The one she threw down the stairs
But she doesn’t remember
Because it wasn’t snowing
It’s never snowing
She loves the snow
In my head it’s always snowing
